Since this time, Rubina has worked in her private practice, also based in Westmead. She decided to join PAW to give her the opportunity to work closely with medical and allied health colleagues once more, whilst maintaining her private practice.
Rubina has extensive experience as a child and adolescent clinical psychologist. She provides treatment to young people across a range of clinical presentations including anxiety and depression, selective mutism, separation and school refusal, social anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) including social skills and emotional regulation challenges, grief and loss, ADHD, and behavioural problems. Rubina also does assessments for ADHD and learning challenges. She is trained in assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through Mindful, University of Melbourne.
Rubina has, as part of her extensive clinical experience gained over the years, including her training at CHW, come to value the importance of working with a child or teenager in the context of their family, school, and peer settings. That is, a systemic/big picture approach to working with kids and teens. Rubina uses an eclectic approach in her treatment including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and family therapy. She has trained in clinical hypnotherapy, which she uses as an adjust to therapy. Rubina provides assessments as part of her treatment of children and teenagers, which helps in addressing underlying learning, or social challenges etc. Her medical background (working at CHW) enables her to work closely with paediatricians and doctors in the management of medical presentations such as childhood enuresis, Functional Neurological Disorders etc. Rubina is passionate about ensuring that children and teenagers meet their optimal overall well-being. Rubina is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Australian Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (AACBT).
